Poker

Poker

One of the most popular games at all and certainly the most famous card game, which every good casino should offer. Poker has steadily been gaining popularity over the past couple of years. The rules are relatively simple, but the strategy and knowledge require to be a good player is extremely complex and intriguing.

Before Playing

As with any other card game, there is a certain degree of chance involved in Poker. Any solid player would, however, say that Poker is vastly a game of skill, superior strategy and knowledge of the mathematics involved in the game. Therefore, one should definitely study the rules and complexities of the game prior to playing. Click here to read up on the rules of Poker.

Choosing the Online Casino

When choosing which online casino to create an account with, there are several factors a player should consider.

U.S. Player Acceptance

If you live in the United States, not every casino allows you to play Poker. Although a majority of reputable online casinos welcomes U.S. players, you should make a quick research prior to choosing your online casino.

Bonus Possibilities

All online casinos offer bonuses of some sort. Whether it is rakeback, frequent player rewards, a VIP program or simply friend referral bonuses, a player should look into all these bonus possibilities prior to signing up for an account. Many casinos have huge first deposit sign-up bonuses.

Competition

Some online casinos have more players - and consequently more competition - than others. Find out how easy it is to get a game going on all of the casinos before picking the one you play on.

The Rules

Poker is played with a regular 52-card deck and the dealer is not involved in the gameplay itself. Instead, the players face each other. Before depositing real money on a poker site, players can play for play money or freerolls - tournaments that require no sign-up fee - to get some experience with the game. The rules are not particularly complicated to learn. Each player is dealt two cards at the beginning. A first round of betting ensues, then the first three community cards, called the flop, are dealt. After another round of betting, the fourth community card, the turn, hits the board and the players bet again. Finally the river, the last community card, is dealt and the players bet one last time. Hand Rankings

A winning hand is determined according to a pre-set ranking system. In order of worst to best, the rankings are: high card, one pair, two pair, three of a kind, straight, flush, full house, four of a kind, straight flush, royal flush. To read more on the hand rankings, click here.

Strategy

As mentioned earlier, Poker is in part determined by luck and chance, but to a bigger extent by skill. A good strategy and knowledge of the game is the key to success. For a beginning player it is recommended to play only the top quality starting hands, such as high pairs or two high cards. Learn more about strategy in our section about Poker, which can be found here.
