Baccarat
Baccarat may not be your typical casino game. Nonetheless, it is definitely one that every reputable online or live casino has in its repertoire. Many players like to enjoy Baccarat for its sophisticated feel and setting. Although the game has very complex rules, in online Baccarat the player doesn't necessarily have to be familiar with all of them.
The Basics
Baccarat is a card game of chance and skill originating in Italy. Although the rules can be overwhelmingly complex, the game is essentially a coin toss. Particularly in online Baccarat everything follows a very straight-forward procedure, where the player simply needs to click on "deal". After that the whole flow of the game is essentially predetermined. The game can be played with various amounts of card decks, ranging from one to as many as eight. Conventionally, Baccarat is played with eight decks of cards.
Rules
Baccarat offers a great opportunity for gambling. Similar to Blackjack in terms of chance determining the outcome of a game, yet much simpler to play, Baccarat doesn't require much previous knowledge of the game or memorization of charts and hand rankings. The game starts with a player betting on either "player", "banker" or "tie", essentially stating who he thinks is most likely to win. After this bet, the player and the banker each receive two cards. The player, whose hand is closer to nine, wins, with aces counting as one, and tens as well as face cards as zero. Unlike Blackjack, Baccarat hands will never go over. Instead, if the two cards add up to a number greater than nine, the unit digit will be removed. For example 9 and 3 add up to 12 but are counted as 2.
Winning Hands
In order to determine which player wins a hand, there are certain rules. An 8 or 9 in Baccarat is called a "natural". If a player is dealt a natural he automatically wins unless the dealer also has an 8 or 9 to tie or beat the player's hand. A 6 or 7 requires the player to stand, whereas a number between 0 and 5 means he must hit. There is a house edge in the form of the banker winning automatically with a natural if the player doesn't also have one.If the player decides to draw a third card, the banker will always draw to 0, 1 or 2, stand on a 7 and draw to a 3 if the player's third card is 0-7. The banker will draw to a 4 if the player's third card is 2 through 7, will draw to a 5 if the third card is 4 through 7, and will draw to a 6 only if the player's third card is 6 or 7. As you can see, there are many complex rules, but a player doesn't even have to know them all, because online poker automaticaly regulates the flow of the game.
Live versus Online Play
Many aspects of Baccarat that are present in live play are missing in online versions of the game. Part of this is intentional to simplify the game. The main difference between live and online play is the fact that Baccarat primarily targets high rollers and rich gamblers in the live settings, while the game is available for even the lowest stakes online. Due to the differing type of players that the game is catered to, online Baccarat lacks the formality of the live version.
Additionally, online Baccarat is certainly easier to play for a beginner, as all the procedures follow patterns and are thus outlined in a simple matter. All the player needs to do is click his way through the game without having to worry about decision charts too much.
