Special Bets in Roulette
There are twelve bets in the game of Roulette: a bet on one number, two, three, four, or six numbers, dozens, neighboring dozens, columns, neighboring columns, red or black, odd or even, and big or small. Besides these bets, however, there are also several special bets.
Completing a Number
This bet is made with nine chips, like the picture below suggests. The payout depends, if the correctly guessed number is in the middle or on the outlying region of your chips.
If an 8 falls in the first picture, the maximum winnings are:
1 x 35:1 (the number 8)
4 x 17:1 (two numbers 5-8, 7-8, 8-9, 8-11)
4 x 8:1 (four numbers 4-8, 5-9, 7-11, 8-12)
The total payout is 135:1.
The Finale
This bet consists in wagering on the last digit of a number. For example Final four means that you bet on the numbers 4, 14, 24, and 34. Wagers on Final one and Final six therefore require four chips, while Final 7, 8 and 9 only require three.
Betting on Neighboring Numbers
Sometimes you may get the feeling that the marble tends to fall into one slot more frequently. The wheel used for Roulette is made with laserlike precision, but the possibility of there being microscopic irregularities is definitely there. You can take advantage of this by betting on neighboring numbers.
If, for example, you want to bet the number 17 and three of the neighboring numbers, you can bet seven chips on neighboring 17. The chips will be placed on the three numbers directly to the left as well as to the right, so in our example on the numbers 21, 2, 25, 17, 34, 6 and 27. You can find all the neighboring numbers here:
Neighboring numbers on a French Roulette wheel (one zero)
Neighboring numbers on an American Roulette wheel (two zeroes)
Tiers du Cylindre, Voisins du Zero, Orphelins
On a French Roulette wheel you can take advantage of three special bets : le Tiers du Cylindre, les Voisins du Zero, and les Orphelins. The first one involves betting on twelve numbers from 33 to 27. The second bet means that you wager on the numbers that are next to zero, so a total of 17 numbers from 25 to 22. The last bet, called orphan in English, represents betting on the remainder of the wheel, so the numbers from 6 to 17 and from 9 to 1.
